How Young Is Too Young For A Puppy To Respond To Human Training And Socialization? Here'S What You Need To Know To Keep Your Pup Safe And Happy

A dog will be very dependent on their mother during 1-8 weeks of age. The mother will provide her puppies with the nutrition they need until they are fully weaned. Once they are physically able to do so, they will begin to socialize in their environments. Puppies' eyes will open in the second week of life. Their hearing will continue to develop until the babies are around five weeks old. After 14 days of pregnancy, pups begin to see, hear and walk. Around seven to eight weeks old, the first "fear period" will begin. Most pups are afraid of new things. Human socialization with gentle handling is important. Mom will still take care of her dogs until they were fully sheaned. Pups are born and weaned by six to eight months of age and are still too young to respond to training or socialization. At three to four weeks, they can hear, walk, and urinate/defecate on their own. The time between four to seven weeks of pregnancy is an early socialization window. .
