A New Report Raises Concerns With Commercial And Home
A new report published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association raises concerns with both commercial and home prepared diets. The report was published in a December 1, 2012 issue of the Journal of theAmerican Veterinary Medicine Association. None of the 27 recipe identified and evaluated met NRC RA [National Research Council recommended Dietary Allowances] or AAFCO nutrient profiles for all essential nutrients. In some cases, the recipe contained excessive, potentially toxic amounts of nutrients. No data support the health benefits of Nongrain sources of carbohydrate. A home-prepared diet made using a recipe designed by a veterinary nutritionist or commercially-prepped food with an AAFCA “Complete and balanced” statement on its label is made from wholesome ingredients. Make sure you feed your dog, whether he has cancer.
